Born in Maras in 1943, Mahzuni Serif became known for the social and politically themed deyis that he sung in the 1970s. These songs, which moved the public and which he composed, sang and played masterfully, brought him fame in a very short time. He recorded hundreds of his deyis on records and cassettes. Of the asiks who wrote satire and social commentary, he was the most important. He passed on in 2003.
